In this post, I'm going to share my experience with LEVEL8 suitcases – a brand that’s been creating unique and stylish cases for the past few years. With its innovative designs, durable construction, and fantastic features, LEVEL8 luggage stands out as an ideal solution for all of your traveling needs.

My travel journey with LEVEL8 luggage began when I got the opportunity to travel with 2 of their cases to Paris this fall. I have so much to think about when traveling to Paris, the last thing I wanted was to be worrying about my luggage.

With my LEVEL8 suitcases, I travel worry-free!

Featuring a durable and lightweight design, the carry-on seamlessly fits all my travel essentials while keeping my laptop secure. To be honest, I don't normally travel with carry-on luggage, except for extremely short trips. I bring my MZ Wallace Medium Tote Bag and a laptop backpack, but it is a lot to carry on my shoulders/back.

With the LEVEL8 Road Runner textured carry-on (in 20″), I can put my tote bag on top of the carry-on and glide through the airport, train station, and on the street, I am in love! And all my personal items fit with room to spare.

My favorite feature about the LEVEL8 Road Runner is the added laptop pocket. I was able to easily grab my laptop from my carry-on when needed without any hassle. The LEVEL8 textured carry-on also features a large main compartment, zipped side pockets, and a front compartment that's perfect for easy access to my passport and other essential documents.

The carry-on made my travels more manageable, and I didn't have to worry about packing or unpacking constantly.

I have tried hard shell bags with a “split construction” (bag zips down the middle and opens into two shallower main compartments) but they were extremely awkward and I went back to a duffel-style suitcase. In reality, that was the thing I wanted to test out the most with the LEVEL8. I am not sure what voodoo LEVEL8 luggage has conjured, but it was super easy to open, close, and maneuver, even in small. spaces.

I am now a convert!

The LEVEL8 website does an excellent job detailing the features of the Road Runner but, I will mention them here:

  • Business-Ready: Quick-access laptop and tablet sleeves in the front compartment. Fits up to a 17″ laptop and/or a 10.9″ tablet.
  • Built to Last: The poly-carbonate hard shell and water resistance protect your items.
  • Secure Travel: Dual locking system – TSA-approved combination lock and a specialized front-pocket lock.
  • Smooth Maneuverability: Advanced 360° spinner wheels designed for effortless movement and long-lasting durability.

I encourage you to look at all the details on the LEVEL8 website, it's pretty impressive!

LEVEL8 Voyageur Check-in Luggage

The other selection I made was the LEVEL8 Voyageur Check-In 26” in yellow and black. This spacious case has a huge amount of capacity, making it perfect for longer trips. It provides ample storage space and can handle being checked when traveling by plane. The four 360° easy-moving wheels make it convenient to navigate through airports, crowded streets, and even rough terrain.

I waltzed through RDU with both LEVEL8 cases without any problems at all.

The hard-shell design looks durable and sleek. The wide handle makes it impossible to miss grabbing it (if you have had a case with a small handle, you will know what I mean!).

Here are the features from the LEVEL8 website :

  • Creative handle design (a telescopic handle made from aluminum alloy – LOVE THIS!) allows for increased packing space
  • Makrolon polycarbonate hard shell material, durable and lightweight (it has anti-scratch surface technology)
  • TSA-approved locks for additional security
  • Ultra quiet 360° durable spinner wheels, with anti-shock design
  • Interior compression system to get your possessions organized inside the interior compartments

The LEVEL8 Voyageur page has all the details, I recommend you read through it, you WILL be impressed!

Picture this: The traveler in your life is about to embark on their first adult trip ever, or a much-awaited vacation. They’ve already spent weeks (or months!) planning the perfect itinerary. They’ve read numerous travel blogs and received great tips from friends on what to do and where to go. The excitement is palpable, and they can hardly wait to start packing.

But here’s the catch: Their luggage is a flimsy old bag on its last legs. It was a hand-me-down from a family member or friend, or something on sale from a big box store, or worse, a thrift shop or garage sale.

They’ve always made do with it, but it has seen better days. As they start packing, they realize that the bag is falling apart at the seams, and the zipper is broken. Suddenly, their dream trip or vacation just turned into a nightmare.

YOU to the rescue!

Setting the Stage for the Perfect Traveler's Gift

When it comes to gift-giving, there's an art in selecting the ideal present. For the travel enthusiast in your life, the options are endless, but one gift stands out among the rest for its practicality and thoughtfulness: a suitcase.

Choosing a gift is not just about the physical item; it's a reflection of your understanding and appreciation for the recipient. Thoughtful presents convey how much you care and a suitcase speaks volumes about your understanding of the traveler in your life's needs.

Let's explore why good-quality suitcases make an excellent gift for travelers and delve into the reasons why I think investing in quality luggage, and I recommend LEVEL8, is a must for every globetrotter or wannabe globetrotter.

Durability

Travelers subject their luggage to a considerable amount of wear and tear. Airports, buses, and train stations can be unforgiving environments, and a sturdy suitcase can withstand the rigors of travel. Quality suitcases are constructed from materials that are built to last, ensuring that your gift will accompany its traveler on many adventures (and misadventures!).

In my early career, I was traveling a lot and was always fearful that my bag – usually stuffed with purchases and souvenirs from the countries I was visiting – would make it home. My bags were awkward and odd-shaped, and the handles and zippers broke all the time! Then I got smart, bought a better suitcase, and never looked back!

Impact-Resistant Shells

Accidents happen, and luggage can take a beating in transit. A quality suitcase should have an impact-resistant shell that protects the contents from rough handling and unexpected bumps and jostles. LEVEL8 cases are made of German-made Makrolon polycarbonate which is tough as nails!

Protecting valuable items and souvenirs collected during a trip is a top priority for any traveler. Look for cases that come with built-in compression straps that keep the contents secure and prevent shifting during transit. This feature ensures that delicate souvenirs, fragile items, and cherished possessions arrive home intact.

Hassle-Free Trips

Investing in a quality suitcase means ensuring a hassle-free journey. Many modern suitcases are equipped with smooth-rolling wheels and ergonomic handles, making it a breeze to navigate through crowded airports and city streets.

You don't realize how important this is until you experience really good wheels and handles. These features take the physical strain out of travel and ensure that the traveler arrives at their destination refreshed and ready for adventure.

A few years ago Mr. Misadventures and I convinced my mother-in-law to buy a better suitcase. Each time she would arrive from France to visit us, we weren't sure if her ratty old suitcase would make it! We were always amazed that she went from the train to the airport to us without a mishap. It was tied together with strings and ribbons, it didn't roll right – a total mess! Now she raves about how much easier it is on her…although she still overpacks!

This year we also gifted my Mom a high-quality suitcase and her solo trips through the airport are now a breeze – good wheels make a difference!

LEVEL8 has 360° spinner wheels that glide like nobody's business!

Security and Peace of Mind

Security is paramount when traveling. Quality suitcases often come with TSA-approved locks, providing peace of mind to the traveler. These locks allow security personnel to inspect the contents of the suitcase without damaging it, reducing the chances of theft or damage during security checks.

My Luminous Textured Carry-On shown above has a TSA-approved combination lock.

Also, the LEVEL8 20″ Road Runner carry-on I have has a dual locking system plus a dedicated front-pocket lock. This is convenient for unlocking part of the case to grab my laptop (no, laptop, it is perfect for a tablet and some magazines!) without unlocking everything.

Other Suitcase Features to Look For

Organizational Efficiency: Beyond size, the number and arrangement of compartments and pockets in a suitcase are key factors to consider. A well-organized suitcase will help the traveler keep their belongings in order, making packing and unpacking a breeze.

One feature I love about my LEVEL8 Voyageur Check-In is its wide trolley system that allows for more actual room inside the case.

Packed LEVEL8 Suitcase

In addition, the Voyageur Check-In has a fantastic interior compression system, wet-dry pockets, and two expansive compartments. My Road Runner Carry-on also has large compartments with zippered pockets and a compression strap.

Water and Stain Resistance: Travel often exposes luggage to various environmental conditions. LEVEL8 cases are water-resistant and protect the contents from rain, spills, and other unexpected mishaps. This feature can be a lifesaver during unpredictable travel scenarios!

Gifting the Perfect Suitcase

To ensure your gift is truly appreciated, take the time to assess your traveler's habits and preferences. Different sizes and styles of suitcases are suitable for various types of travel. For short weekend getaways, a carry-on suitcase may be ideal, while longer trips may require a larger checked suitcase.

Understanding their typical travel style will help you select a suitcase that perfectly suits their needs and enhances their travel experience.

LEVEL8 has something for every travel personality!

By compartmentalizing their belongings, packing cubes allow your traveler to neatly separate clothing, accessories, and toiletries, making it easier to find what they need without rummaging through a chaotic suitcase. Additionally, they help prevent wrinkles and keep items protected during transit, ensuring your outfits remain pristine upon arrival.

In an age dominated by digital technology, there's a unique charm and profound satisfaction in reading a “real book” (and not something on my Kindle); writing my daily notes for work and my blog in a spiral notebook, and jotting down my travel experiences in a physical travel journal.

For those of you who also cherish the tactile sensation of pen on paper, a travel journal isn’t just a booklet—it’s a treasure chest that captures the essence of our journeys in the most personal way.

woman writing in notebook in cold weather

The Timeless Appeal of Pen and Paper

Sure digital platforms offer convenience, but for me, they cannot replicate the sensory experience of writing in a physical journal. The rustle of pages turning, the scent of paper, and the flow of ink are all part of my deeply personal journal experience.

Each journal becomes a unique artifact, a piece of history that holds not just my thoughts and observations but also tickets, dried flowers, and scribbles that tell stories beyond words.

I often use these notebooks to write the very articles I publish on Misadventures with Andi.

Crafting Your Travel Story

Travel journals are more than just diaries; they are canvases for our memories. Whether I am [trying] to sketch the sunset over the Seine or jotting down a recipe from a quaint bistro in Montmartre, the journal collects experiences that digital devices cannot capture. The act of writing by hand encourages reflection and mindfulness, making each trip more meaningful.

Choosing the Right Journal

As a curator of bespoke travel journals (oh, I have SO many!), I understand the importance of finding the perfect companion for your adventures. I always consider the cover, type of binding, paper quality, and size that best suits my travel style or needs of a particular trip. A well-chosen journal should be durable, easy to carry, and a delight to write in.

I have a collection in Le Shop that offers a variety of journals that meet these criteria.

woman writing in notebook in coffee shop

Integrating Journals into Your Travels

To make the most of your travel journal, start by setting aside a few minutes daily to write. It doesn’t have to be a meticulous account; even a few bullet points about the day’s highlights or a memorable meal can enrich your recollection.

Stickers, stamps, and doodles add color and personality to your entries, turning your journal into a vibrant scrapbook of your travels.

How to Use Travel Journals: Tips to Get Started

Embarking on a new adventure with a travel journal in hand is exciting, but knowing where to start can sometimes feel daunting. Here are some tips to help you begin your journey of documenting your travels effectively:

1. Find the Perfect Travel Journal

Your journal should be a personal reflection of your travel style. Consider what type of traveler you are: Do you need a sturdy, weather-resistant cover for adventurous outings, or would a beautifully bound, elegant journal better suit city breaks?

The paper quality should withstand the pens or pencils you prefer (or your tendency to spill coffee…), and the size should be convenient for travel without sacrificing writing space.

Also, I buy journals while on the trip. Paris has so many beautiful paper shops. I browse, buy, and pick them up along the way. If you do this, skill Step #2 and head straight to number #3.

woman writing in notebook

2. Write About Your Expectations of This Vacation

Before your trip even begins, take a moment to write about your expectations. What are you most excited to see or do? Are there specific experiences you hope to have?

Writing down your expectations not only sets the tone for your adventure but also serves as an opportunity for reflecting when you revisit your entries after the trip. It’s interesting to see how your initial thoughts compare to the actual experiences.

3. Document the Journey as You Go

While on your trip, try to write regularly. Capture little moments and big highlights: the taste of a local dish, the feel of the sun on your skin, or the laughter shared with a new friend.

Don’t stress about writing full, polished sentences—quick notes and bullet points are just as valuable. Remember, this is your personal storybook, not a travel guide for others.

woman writing in notebook with souvenirs

4. Include Ephemera

Adding items like ticket stubs, postcards, and brochures can transform your journal into a 3D scrapbook. These items help bring your written memories to life and make the journal even more personal and colorful.

I even tape in my photos from my Foto Automat adventures in Paris and I have been known to add metro tickets too!

[Ephemera: paper items that were originally meant to be discarded after use but have since become collectibles]

5. Write a Reflection After Your Trip

Once your trip is over, write a reflective entry about your overall experiences. Compare these with your initial expectations. What surprised you? What delighted you? What would you do differently next time?

This exercise not only provides closure to your journey but also valuable insights for your future travels.

woman writing in notebook in coffee shop

6. Share and Preserve Your Journey

Consider sharing your travel journal with friends and family. This can be a wonderful way to relive the adventure and inspire others.

This is how Misadventures with Andi became a blog! I was journaling my adventures and sending emails about them to my friends and family when I first moved to France and Switzerland. People enjoyed them so much, it turned into THIS blog!

Finally, store your journal in a safe place where you can easily revisit it, reminding yourself of the incredible experiences and the growth you achieved through your travels.

Each filled journal becomes part of a larger narrative—a testament to the journeys undertaken and the memories made. Sharing these stories with friends and family or even your future self can be a joyous occasion, a way to relive the adventure from the comfort of your home. I often flip through my travel journals, and they inspire me to write more stories and buy more journals!

A Journey Worth Savoring

In a world rushing towards digitization, taking the time to write about your travels in a physical journal can be a revolutionary act. It’s a way to slow down, to absorb the beauty around you, and to reflect on the experiences that shape you.

So, the next time you pack your bags, slip a travel journal into your suitcase. It might just be the most valuable item you carry—not for its cost, but for the memories it will hold.

I've got a few in LeShop that you can check out, and some of my other favorites:

How about you? Do you journal about your travels? Digital or hard copy? Do share!

When is a suitcase not a suitcase?

When it's a badass camera case!

The Misadventures household are big fans of Level8 suitcases and Mr. Misadventures has used F-Stop gear for decades. Still, it was only recently that we discovered just how much better Level8 and F-Stop are together.

Mr. Misadventures and I are both type-A. We like organization. For travel, especially for the photography enthusiast or professional, there is a constant quest for gear that protects expensive equipment and does so with style, ease, and efficiency. The combination of Level8's Gibraltar Aluminum Carry-On paired with F-stop's Camera Inserts and the Level8 Voyageur Check-In with F-stop's AJNA 37L Backpack presents a seamless solution that does just that.

Let me walk you through how these products work better together.

The Perfect Pair: Level8 and F-Stop

Starting Strong

Level8 Gibraltar Aluminum Carry-On F-stop Pro Large Camera Insert
Level8 Gibraltar Aluminum Carry-On with an F-stop Pro Large Camera Insert (l) and F-stop Pro X-Large Camera Insert (r)

You do not want to check your camera gear unless you absolutely have to and then that is all you will think about the entire flight! Lugging your gear in a backpack, messenger, or traditional camera bag around the airport, especially during a long day of travel can be a pain. The solution is a Level8 carry-on with 360° spinner wheels so you can glide through the airport (or train station) with ease. In this case, a sleek Level8 Gibraltar Aluminum Carry-On.

Depending on the gear you are transporting, you can use an F-stop Pro Large or X-Large Camera Insert. For example, with the Large insert, you can bring a Sony A1 camera body, a 400 mm 2.8 or 600 mm 2.8 lens, and extra lenses and accessories. With the X-Large insert, you can bring a 400 mm (not attached to the camera body) a 200 x 600 zoom lens, and extra lenses and accessories.

Both of these inserts fit into the Level8 Gibraltar Aluminum Carry-On and both fit into the F-stop AJNA 37L backpack.

F-stops high-grade materials and thoughtful design cradle your prized camera gear. Level8's Gibraltar Aluminum aerospace-grade aluminum magnesium alloy ensures they stay secure.

Check-In Ready

Next is your check-in combo. You need clothes, right?

The Level8 Voyageur Check-In, with an F-stop AJNA 37L DuraDiamond Travel and Adventure Camera Backpack, if you are doing outdoor photography, is the perfect check-in and carry-on solution. You are prepped for any adventure.

The backpack fits perfectly within the roomy interior (plus a tripod too) still leaving plenty of space for your clothes, toiletries, and other travel necessities. Or in Mr. Misadventures case, more photo gear and accessories!

Packing it Up

With lenses and camera body packed inside the F-stop Pro Large Camera Insert (and then packed inside the Gibraltar Carry-On) you can see in the photo above that they fit perfectly together, proving that Mr. Misadventures has meticulously thought out the space and design.

Once zipped closed, you can see a little room on the side for some small accessories or cables.

The insert's configuration is tailored to safeguard camera bodies, lenses, and accessories during transit.

“I'm sorry, the overhead bins are full”

Total nightmare, right?

Well, just remove the insert from the suitcase. The insert will fit under the seat in front of you (or squeeze into a space that a carry-on would not).

Secure and Set

Once you arrive at your location and are ready to head out to shoot. Transfer your lens insert with your camera and lenses into your backpack and you are all set.

Ready. Set. Shoot.

F-stop's Pro Large Camera Insert

F-stop's Pro Large Camera Insert transforms the suitcase into a mobile camera unit, with configurable padding to fit camera bodies, lenses, and accessories snugly and securely.

F-stop AJNA 37L DuraDiamond Travel and Adventure Camera Backpack

The F-stop AJNA 37L DuraDiamond Travel and Adventure Camera Backpack is not just any backpack. It’s crafted with DuraDiamond® Fabric, making it lighter, stronger, and more weather-resistant. The redesigned back panel organizer, ice axe sleeves, and T6 aluminum hardware highlight its readiness for any adventure.

Final Thoughts

Traveling with camera gear doesn't have to be a compromise between security and mobility. The fusion of Level8's luggage solutions with F-stop's camera protection inserts and backpacks creates a harmonious system that's as elegant as it is practical.

Whether you're navigating the hustle of airports or the silence of nature's trails, this combo ensures your focus remains on capturing the moments, not worrying about your gear. So, pack up, roll out, and let the adventure begin – with every piece of gear in its right place, ready when you are.

How about you? Do you have a travel and camera gear combo that works for you? Do tell!

Don't forget to pin this for later!

Travel can be stressful, but having the right gear can make all the difference. Plus, packing for a trip can be overwhelming, especially if you're not sure what to bring. That's where I come in! I have been traveling for a LONG time and tried out a lot of gear so I've rounded up the best travel essentials, travel gear, and the best accessories for travelers that will make your trip more comfortable and efficient.

Whether you're doing short trips, going on a long flight, an international trip, or just need essentials for a road trip, a beach trip, or a weekend getaway I've got you covered. Get these items on your travel essentials list!

Travel Essentials for Long Flights

Long flights can be uncomfortable, especially if you have a connecting flight or a long layover. To make the journey more bearable, pack items such as a neck pillow, noise-canceling headphones, an eye mask, and a good book.

A neck pillow will support your neck and head, making it easier to sleep on the plane. Noise-canceling headphones will block out the sounds of the plane and other passengers, allowing you to enjoy some peace and quiet. An eye mask will block out any light, creating a dark environment that will make it easier for you to sleep or relax. Lastly, bring a good book, magazine, or tablet to keep you entertained during the flight.

Here are my tried and true picks:

Cabeau Air Evolution Inflatable Travel Pillow

I prefer an inflatable neck pillow as I don't want my travel gear to take up a lot of space. I have had my Cabeau for years and love it because it is washable. Cabeau has another pillow that is not inflatable, the Cabeau Evolution Memory Foam Travel Pillow which is well-regarded as well.

Sony Noise Canceling Headphones

I avoided these for years! I preferred something more compact but in reality, the quality sucked. Mr. Misadventures had these and finally convinced me to invest in them and of course, getting them in navy blue was a huge bonus. I do not know why I waited so long to get them!

Brooklinen Mulberry Silk Eye Mask

I love my Lunya silk sleep mask for home (and hotels) but it is a little too bulky for my taste when it comes to the plane. My choice for my carry-on bag is still silk. I have the Brooklinen Mulberry Silk Eyemask. It feels super soft and is also machine washable which is a big bonus in my book.

Bucky Comfort Travel Blanket Scarf

I love to travel with scarves. On a plane, I want something soft and compact. This jersey blanket scarf does the job and comes in its own bag for transport and packing in my carry-on bag. They also have a matching neck pillow you can buy too although it is not inflatable.

The Best Travel Gear: Tech

When it comes to traveling, having the right tech accessories can make all the difference in making your trip a smooth and enjoyable one. There are a variety of travel items to choose from to enhance your traveling experiences.

Power banks are one of the most important travel essentials to keep your devices charged while on the go. A smaller portable power bank is perfect for ensuring battery life during a day out.

Additionally, accessories with built-in tracking capabilities can provide added peace of mind when navigating unfamiliar airports and train stations. With so many travel necessities and accessories available, it's easy to customize your travel kit to fit your specific needs and preferences.

These should definitely be on your tech travel checklist:

Anker USB C Outlet Extender

A lifesaver when you have a lot of items to charge! It's a single wall outlet with 2 USB ports, 1 USB-C port, and 3 AC outlets to power up to 6 devices.

Anker USB C Charger (Nano)

A portable charger that has the power to quickly charge your phone, tablet, and USB-C notebook. Perfect when you need your device ASAP!

Apple AirTag 4 Pack + Case Holders

This has freed my mind of worry when it comes to the stress of knowing where the heck my suitcases are! I also use them for bags, purses, and my hubby!

SAMSUNG T7 1TB, Portable SSD

If you take a lot of photos while traveling or you want to carry some documents with you this slim but mighty external hard disk should be in your tech kit!

Wander and Perch Wander Wet Bag

Eileen, the founder and creator of Wander & Perch shares her philosophy on carrying around a bag for your summer suits: “Life is too short for ugly plastic bags. Travel life beautifully.”

I could not agree with her more! I love my Wander Wet Bag Nomad in Indigo blue! I only wish I had it when I was visiting all the thermal spas in the Azores last year, much prettier than my plastic shopping bags! The water resistant interior is awesome!

Bonus: these bags are designed in Encinitas, California and proudly Made in the USA.

International Travel

International travel requires some additional preparation. Also, consider bringing a universal power adapter, which will allow you to charge your devices in any country. These are really the key international travel essentials.

A travel-friendly travel backpack or tote bag will also come in handy for carrying all your essentials while exploring a new city. And if you are going to be in Europe or any other region where the money is predominantly coins, do not forget a dual-sided coin purse it is a lifesaver!

International Power Adapter

The Anker European Power Adapter has 2 USB ports besides the outlet plug. I am fond of the whole Anker line, they are lightweight and compact.

Orange SIM Card for Europe

If you own your phone and want an internet connection when you can't access free WiFi, then think about buying a sim card for Europe.

Conair Travel Hair Dryer

This dryer has a folding handle for compact packing in a suitcase or carry-on bag. Dual voltage, it's perfect for worldwide travel.

Portable Digital Luggage Scale

International airports are pickier about the size, weight, and shape of your luggage and in particular your carry-on. Don't risk it, carry this scale!

Mr. Misadventures loves bar soap and this case has been a savior. It is waterproof and leakproof so it goes inside your toiletry kit without fear! Plus with their Dry-Through Technology, you no longer have to deal with mushy bars!

Matador Refillable Toothpaste Tubes

Also from Matador, don't pay for expensive travel-sized toothpaste, buy your favorite full-sized version and squeeze it into Matador's refillable toothpaste tubes. Clean in the dishwasher, it's safe! Two tubes are included, for 1 week or 2.

Quince Leather Jewelry Travel Case

Elegant and practical, this travel case is ideal for transporting your cherished jewelry pieces with ease, ensuring they remain free from tangles. For your weekend getaway or when you only wish to bring along your most adored items.

TRAVEL ACCESSORY

FlipBelt Running Belt

This accessory is marketed to athletes and fitness buffs, BUT I think it is AWESOME for travel! A more modern version of the old money belt that our parents or grandparents used when they traveled, the FlipBelt is light and moisture-wicking. You can wash it too! Fit money and credit cards, your cell phone or passport, your important docs on a USB key, or just your room key and some spare taxi money. It comes in multiple sizes so you can get one that really fits you! Love this thing!

Travalo Classic HD Perfume Atomizer

I have been using these for years. I have tried other brands and always come back to Travalo. It is easy to use and durable, I still have my first one and it is more than 10 years old! I take 2 for a month away.

Kitsch 11pc Travel Size Bottles

I like this set because I often buy beauty products in France (and Portugal) when I visit and these travel bottles are lighter than the original bottles which are often glass and heavy!

Nori Press Iron and Steamer

I don't know about you but I often have to eliminate some of my wardrobe items because they wrinkle when I travel. This is revolutionary! Now I can bring my favorite white shirt!

Stasher TSA-Friendly Travel Bags

These bags come in all shapes and sizes. I use them for everything. From daily vitamins and powders to snacks! They are reusable and eco-friendly made with food-grade silicone.

LEVEL8 Packing Cubes

I am a packing cube believer! I have been using them for decades and can't imagine packing for a trip without them. But not all packing cubes are equal and quality matters! I just tried the packing cubes from LEVEL8 (the suitcase brand I recommend) for the first time and they are perfectly sized for multiple needs, whether clothing or accessories!

Comfortable Walking Shoes

If you aren't sick of me writing about Jambu yet, I will remind you again that I think that Jambu shoes are the best travel shoes around! Plus they also come with their own shoe bags!

A girl and her Jambu shoes…

The Right Travel Bag

Finding the right bag is like finding that perfect shade of lipstick. It is a lifelong search and through my many years of traveling, I have decided there isn't just one! It depends on the trip. Short trip, long trip, business trip, the bag you will need will differ.

And in my case, within a single trip, I will bring many of all different sizes. It starts with the plane or car with a carry-on backpack or small suitcase and moves into the trip with maybe a tote bag, fanny pack, or crossbody bag.

I have dedicated an entire article about what I think the best travel bags are and why.

Young woman with eco bag against color wall

Taking the time to plan your travel gear can make your trip more comfortable and efficient. Whether you're traveling for business or pleasure, having the right travel gear can make all the difference.

By packing the right, you can avoid overpacking and save space in your luggage. Additionally, having the necessary gear and the best travel accessories will reduce stress and help you feel more prepared for your trip. I hope my gear choices and list of travel essentials help you for your next trip!

How about you? Do you have a favorite brand or product you always have on your packing list that would like to share? Do tell!

Fall is a beautiful time to visit France. The temperature starts to get cooler, and the colors begin to change, making it a great time for outdoor activities such as hiking, exploring historical sites, and enjoying outdoor cafes.

Alternate Title: 2 awesome boots for the autumn to wear anywhere in the world!

When it comes to packing, deciding what shoes to bring can be challenging. You want stylish shoes that match your outfit but also shoes that are comfortable. Paris demands a lot of walking and you don't want to ruin your trip with blistered feet, but even outside the City of Light, your days will be long and full and you will be surprised how many steps you get in without realizing.

Ensuring you pack the best shoes is essential. Lucky for you, I've just done a test run for fall 2023! After a week in Paris, we went to the countryside for a week in the Fontainebleau area and a week in Loire Valley.

Disclosure: This post is a sponsored collaboration with Jambu & Co. As always ALL opinions are my own.

My recommendations? The Jambu Giselle ankle boot and the Jambu Glasgow biker boot are hands down, the best shoes for walking in comfort and in style. I walked 10 miles a day in both these babies and not a peep from my feet! I dressed them up. I dressed them down. They went with everything I packed!

I am very excited to be partnering with Jambu for another season! We have been working together since the fall of 2018. See the list of posts at the end, you can still find many styles – their styles are timeless while still staying on top of trends – on Amazon.

Jambu Giselle Ankle Boot

The Jambu Giselle ankle boot is stylish, sophisticated, and comfortable. Made of vegan leather, it is durable and lightweight, making it perfect for traveling. The low block heel and petal-inspired perforations provide a unique look, while the rugged side buckle adds a bit of personality to your outfit.

The memory foam insoles ensure that your feet remain comfortable throughout the day, making them perfect for all-day walking.

And walking I did at the Chateau de Chantilly! Between the fabulous chateau and the 115-hectare grounds, I covered a lot of terrain and a lot of surfaces (cobblestone, marble, grass, mud, pavement…) without any issues.

I got mine in Dark Brown but it is also available in Black.

Giselle Features:

  • Memory Foam insoles: foam insoles mold to the contours of your feet for a custom fit, offering soft cushioned support all day long.

Where to BUY the Giselle

Ankle boots are the perfect shoes to wear with jeans, leggings, and dresses. They look great with anything from skinny jeans and ankle-length pants to a midi skirt and a maxi skirt.

Jambu Glasgow Biker Boot

The Jambu Glasgow biker boots are perfect for those who prefer a more traditional biker look. Made of nubuck vegan leather and a chunky block heel, they are both durable and stylish. The minimal buckle design adds a touch of sophistication to the boots, making them perfect for dressier occasions.

The faux fur lining adds an extra bit of warmth that's perfect for colder days while touring the city. These boots received the American Podiatric Medical Association's seal of acceptance for promoting good foot health.

I got mine in Taupe but it is also available in Black. I wore them wandering around the UNESCO World Heritage town of Provins and while visiting the Chateau de Fontainebleau

Glasgow Features:

  • Memory Foam insoles: foam insoles mold to the contours of your feet for a custom fit, offering soft cushioned support all day long.
  • All Terra Traction: Non-slip and partially recycled compressed rubber outsole for superior traction and durability.
  • Water Resistant: The perfect option for when your feet need protection during inclement weather. These shoes will keep your feet warm and dry.
  • APMA Seal of Acceptance: The American Podiatrists Medical Association gave their seal of acceptance to these shoes for promoting good foot health.

Shoes: Jambu Glasgow | Jacket: Stio Women's Skycrest Insulated Snap Shirt in Mulberry | Sweater: from Portugal (similar from Quince) | Pants: Stio Rivet Cords

Biker boots are great for creating a rocker-chic look. They can be paired with skinny jeans and leather jackets or a maxi dress and a denim jacket.

Where to BUY the Glasglow

When traveling to Paris in the fall, it's important to have shoes that can handle the unpredictable weather. With both the Giselle and Glasgow boots, you don't have to worry about sudden downpours. Both shoes are made with water-resistant materials, keeping your feet dry and comfortable even on the rainiest days.

Additionally, they're easy to pack, so you don't have to worry about having too much luggage when traveling. The boots come with their own shoe bags too, a bonus!

TIP: Invest in transitional shoes: In between summer and fall, you’ll still need shoes that can take you from the last days of summer to the first days of fall.

Packing two kinds of shoes is ideal for a trip to Paris. In addition to the boots, I recommend packing transitional shoes like a pair of comfortable sneakers or flats for the days when it is a little warmer. This ensures that you have both comfortable and stylish options for all your activities while in the city.

Andi at the Chateau Vaux Le Vicomte in Jambu GlasgowAndi in Barbizon France in Jambu Giselle Boot

TIP: Choose boots that are easy to slip on and off (or zip up and down) during airport security checks. Ankle boots are perfect for city travel, while knee-high or over-the-knee boots are ideal for cold weather.

It's important to have comfortable and stylish shoes when touring from chateau to chateau or vineyard to vineyard. I highly recommend the Jambu Giselle ankle boot and the Jambu Glasgow biker boot for their durability, comfort, and versatility. Pack these boots and a comfortable pair of sneakers, and you're sure to have a memorable trip without any complaints from your feet.

How about you? Do you have your eye on any Jambu shoes or boots this fall? Which ones? Do tell!

I have been wearing Jambu shoes nearly every day since I was first introduced to them in the fall of 2018. If your first worry while planning a trip to Paris is what to pack and what to wear, I am pretty sure the next item on the “worry list” is what bag to bring.

The answer, in my opinion, is it is a good idea to bring more than one! While visiting Paris, you want to make sure you have all of your travel essentials with you! And you need something functional to put those personal items in!

It also needs to be safe. Paris is a big city. There is crime and definitely a lot of pickpockets.

Here are my go-to bags for visiting Paris.

Coin Purse

The French use Euros which is largely coined base. Sure you will get 20, 50, or even 100 Euro bills to start, but the first time you buy something you will get back a handful of coins!

(Note: try NOT to get those 50 and 100-note bills, no one can really make change for them! Nor do they want to).

I recommend a coin purse with 2 sides, one for your 1-and-2 Euro coins (even the 50 centimes) along with your bills and one for the 1, 2, 5, 10, and 20 centimes coins.

I keep the coin purse separate from the other items in my bag and only pull it out when I need it. If it's cool enough to wear a jacket, I will sometimes keep the coin purse in my pocket (as long as I am not in a super touristy area).

Andi taking coins out of her double sided wallet in Paris
Using my double-sided coin purse while in Paris

It's harder than you think to find a double-sided one, here are a few of my favorites:

Small Travel Wallet with Strap

I use one that is large enough to fit my important items: my passport, a few credit cards, and my cell phone. Even if I don't walk around with my passport, when I am going from Point A to Point B, I want my wallet to be big enough to accommodate it.

blue travel wallet with map and white tennis shoe

With the strap, I am able to wear it comfortably and not have to worry about someone snatching it from me. I arrange it inside a larger bag and pull it out when I need the essentials. I don't have to open my bag up and search.

These are easier to find and come in a wide range and are known also as crossbody phone bags.

Here are some of my favorites:

Cross-body Bag

Bigger than a crossbody wallet, this is one of the best purses for carrying your essentials and all your other bags. I like to have an adjustable shoulder strap so that I can have easy access to it and keep my hands free for other things.

This is a good choice for when you’re out and about and don’t want to carry a lot of stuff with you. I like to have a variety of pockets and sections (along with the main compartment) so that I can organize it by need. Then I memorize where everything is so I don't have to hunt down items leaving myself vulnerable to getting my bag stolen.

As far as security features go, these sections must be zippable.

When I am done in the store or coffee shop, I put it on the inside of my coat (which is why I prefer it to have an adjustable strap) or put it back in my bigger bag. It just makes life a little bit easier.

The best crossbody bags are messenger bags. I use a small messenger bag that I got a while back from Jambu. Unfortunately, they don't carry it anymore.

I also have several sizes of messenger bags from Timbuk2. A company I fell in love with while living in San Francisco. They are extremely eco-conscious and will fix or replace your bag if anything should happen. Something Mr. Misadventures and I have tested out.

Here are some of my favorites:

Never leave your phone or coin purse on a table, put it in your cross-body bag and keep that on your body.

Reusable Sacks

For all the shopping! You can have several of them in different colors in your bigger day bag and pull them out as needed. I like to have more than one so that I can separate things I buy: food versus other things; meat separated from fruits and vegetables, or fragile pastries separated from other heavier items.

I also like to balance the weight of my purchases. Having multiple bags allows me to carry things on both shoulders or both sides of my body.

Most stores, bakeries, and pastry shops in Paris will provide you with a bag. However, I find that they are often small and not always very sturdy. It’s always best to have your own just in case.

For me, one of the most important things to take into consideration is that these bags are compact so I can carry several at a time. Here are some of my favorites.

Tote Bag

One bag to rule them all. I put all the bags I listed above (except maybe the cross-body, although I do also put my crossbody bag into bigger tote bags too!) into the tote bag when I leave my hotel/apartment.

When I know I’ll be doing a lot of walking, or taking public transportation, or if the weather is not great, I bring a tote bag. It’s just big enough to fit everything I need without being too bulky or cumbersome.

Andi in Paris near Odette

Confession. I may be addicted to tote bags! It is my top pick for what you need in Paris. They are so multi-functional and come in so many varieties including fancy ones like my friend Kasia creates.

They are a fun souvenir and a great way to express your personality. I feel like this is the universal bag for travel guides and there must be a reason for that!

They come in all sizes to accommodate your needs and usually fold down to a decent size. I have waterproof ones for the rain too! Depending on what I am doing I will have my coin purse, travel wallet, and reusable sacks, along with a water bottle (lightweight or even a platypus) when it is warm.

I have a lot and am always on the lookout for more as they are my go-to for many situations. Here are a few of my favorites.

  • This MZ Wallace Medium Tote Bag is the ultimate! Perfect for travel and folds up into its own carrier, j'adore!
  • Love this navy blue tote from Vera Bradley (plus it isn't as expensive as the MZ Wallace one…) it is perfect for the plane on the way to Paris as well as a daily tote! It comes in a ton of colors!
  • I have this Reusable Day Tote from J.Crew – I even got it monogrammed with MWA (Misadventures with Andi) in red!
  • Beautiful upcycled bags for a good cause…military families! Check out these bags from R. Riveter tote bags!
  • When it rains the last thing you want is all your stuff getting wet, I have 2 water-resistant totes, one I got in St Malo so you can't get it here, and this one from NNEE.

BONUS: A few extra bags I like to have!

Longchamp bag

If you overshop while in Paris and find you don't have enough space in your suitcase, the Longchamp bag is the perfect solution for going home. It folds up to the size of a book in your suitcase on the way in and is sturdy enough to put all your dirty clothes in on the way home (and leave the more valuable things for your suitcase!). I have several sizes of the Le Pilage line (pilage means foldable) and they have come in handy over the years!

Or you can get the MUCH cheaper version from Telo Sports.

Even if you make it all the way to Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport and then buy too much duty-free you can stop by the Longchamp store and pick one up to stuff everything into as a carry-on bag! (Of course, I am not speaking from experience at all…)

If you read French or have a URL translation tool, check out this Marie Claire article on the bag's history.

Pouches

My second addiction is pouches! This may not be a travel essential for you but it is for me! (Probably also why Mr. Misadventures and I were early adopters of packing cubes!) I use different pouches to separate similar items and keep my larger bags organized. I hate hunting for small items.

I have a pouch with “first aid” items like lip balm, medicine, and bandaids. A pouch with hand wipes, and cleaning wipes. One with stationary: a pen, business cards, etc. Gum and mints. I could go on!

  • Again, Mochi Things is one of my favorite places to shop for organization items like this and I like their pouches.
  • Stasher bags make great pouches too!

Handy tip: It's All About the Layers

My coin purse is inside my tote or messenger bag. My remaining cash, credit cards, and phone are usually in a wallet or small cross-body bag which also goes inside my tote or messenger bag. My pouches contain other essentials (bandaids, medication, hand wipes, or sanitizing gel…) which also go in my tote or messenger. My reusable sacks go into their own pouch thrown into my tote. That way I only need to grab what I need and keep the rest protected in my larger bag.

Note on Backpacks

Although I LOVE backpacks, I personally don't recommend them for Paris. I believe there is more risk of theft than with a crossbody or tote bag. However, if you are going to stay away from super touristy areas (like the Eiffel Tower) or are going to wear your travel backpack in the front when going through those types of areas (plus at the metro station, train stations like Gare du Nord, etc.) then you can get away with a backpack.

Other bags that didn't make the list:

  • I didn't mention a fanny pack, as I am not a fan. I feel like they are easier to steal than a cross-body bag. I could be wrong.
  • I find money belts to be uncomfortable under my clothes.
  • A regular shoulder bag is asking to be stolen, it is easy to knock and grab.
  • A small purse or evening bag might come in handy if you are going directly to a restaurant in the evening and back to your hotel or apartment, but I generally don't use one.

Tips
  • Flights
    • Look for fares using sites like Skyscanner or Expedia.com
    • For France (Paris) coming from the West Coast, I typically fly Air France or United. From the East Coast, I typically fly Air France or Delta.
    • If you travel frequently, consider investing in a Priority Pass for airport lounge access. Not only will you have a spot to relax before your flight and charge your devices, but you can eat and drink for free (without paying crazy airport prices!)
  • Accommodation
  • Transportation
    • For rental car agencies, try Rentalcars.com. When traveling in Europe, I use AutoEurope to make reservations. They find the best rates and allow you to compare different car rental agencies. I typically book with Sixt.
    • For transportation from the CDG airport to anywhere within Paris, consider pre-booking with Get Transfer. It is one way to be stress-free and you can request an English-speaking driver.
  • Tours + Atractions
    • I book tours with companies like Viator and GetYourGuide. Both have a wide variety of activities for every travel style. Other companies to look at include Tours by Locals and Withlocals.
    • If you’re visiting a city with multiple attractions, be sure to check out a discount pass, such as CityPASS or Go City.
    • Context Travel is another option and they offer more educational-based activities.
    • If you are looking to buy tickets to attractions, check out Tiquet.
  • Don't Forget Travel Photos
    • One of my favorite things to do is to get photos taken of me while on vacation. Flytographer is a great option with photographers all over the world.
  • Peace of Mind
    • It’s important to have some type of travel insurance to cover any unforeseen accidents, illnesses, threats, or cancellations. I always travel with insurance and would recommend SafetyWingSquareMouth or Travelex Insurance are good options.
    • Should you have any trouble with flight delays to the extent you feel you deserve compensation, I encourage you to check out and use AirHelp. I used them and for 1 claim I got compensated (transparency: a 2nd claim did not, but I was still glad I tried!).

How do you survive walking close to 40 miles in Chicago without suffering?

One word.

Jambu.

Okay.

5 words: Jambu Spirit Too Eco-Vegan.

Disclosure: This post is a sponsored collaboration with Jambu & Co. As always ALL opinions are my own.

There are a ton of exotic locations in the Spring Lookbook but I am personally donning the Jambu Maple Eco-Vegan “Chicago!” Because this shoe handled 4 days of walking up and down the avenues of the Windy City like a pro.

Andi in her Jambu Maple Eco-Vegan on the BP Bridge in Chicago
Me in my Jambu Spirit Too Eco-Vegan on the BP Bridge in Chicago's Millenial Park

And why is that?

Well, I am pretty sure it has something to do with the fact that it received the American Podiatric Medical Association(APMA) Seal of Acceptance for promoting good foot health. That and the foam insoles.

This shoe also spent a month walking the cobblestones streets of Lisbon where the All Terra traction outsoles killed it when it came to those little black-and-white land mines!

In Lisbon this past January in my Jambu Spirit Too Eco-Vegan

You can feel good wearing this awesome walking shoe because it is eco-friendly. It has a partially recycled plastic knit upper and recycled elastic for the bungees. You don’t have to choose between being eco-conscious and stylish. This comfort-forward slip-on is a great everyday shoe.

It's finally starting to warm up outside and that means it's time to start breaking out the spring and summer clothes! One of the most important things to consider when dressing for the warmer months is your footwear. There are so many great women's walking shoes on the market these days, but which ones should you choose?

My Jambu picks this season!

As always, it was SUPER hard for me to make selections from this season's lineup…but I managed, and here are my recommendations for you!

  • Vegan: This sneaker is certified vegan and is constructed with no animal parts for materials or bindings. Made with tumbled, brushed vegan leather, and microsuede.
  • Eco-friendly: with a partially recycled plastic knit upper, and recycled elastic for the bungees.
  • Microban® antimicrobial treatment: All Jambu shoes have this treatment that helps with odors and promotes cooler drier feet.

One of the most important things to consider when choosing women's walking shoes is comfort. You want a shoe that is going to be comfortable to walk in, even if you are on your feet for long periods of time. Another thing to keep in mind is support. Look for a shoe that has good arch support and cushioning, as this will help reduce fatigue and prevent injuries.

When it comes to women's shoes and jeans, you want to make sure that the two go together well. A good rule of thumb is to choose a shoe that is the same color as your jeans or a similar shade. This will help create a cohesive look that is both stylish and comfortable.

If you are looking for a great walking shoe that is both comfortable and stylish, look no further than Jambu. These shoes are specifically designed for long-distance walking on concrete and other hard surfaces. They have a cushioned sole that helps absorb impact, so they are good shoes for walking all day which is exactly what I did in Chicago!

Tips for choosing walking shoes

There are a lot of things to consider when choosing the perfect walking shoe. But with a little bit of research, you are sure to find the perfect pair for your needs. Here are some great tips to keep in mind when choosing the perfect pair of shoes for your needs:

Consider your budget. Walking shoes can range in price. It's important to consider how much you are willing to spend before you start shopping. If you can't afford the higher-priced models and you have some time before your trip, then create a mini-savings plan to put money aside until you have the amount you need. You do not want to go cheap on shoes you will need for walking long distances and on hard surfaces. Sign-up for the Jambu newsletter and watch for the sales. There are lots and lots of sales!

Think about the type of walking you will be doing. Are you going to be walking long distances on hard surfaces? Or are you just looking for a shoe to wear around the neighborhood? This will help narrow down your choices.

Read the reviews. Once you have narrowed down your choices, take some time to read online reviews of the shoes you are considering. This is a great way to get an unbiased opinion about how the shoes perform in real-world conditions.

Pay attention to fit. It's important that your shoes fit well and are comfortable from the start. Be sure to try on several pairs of shoes before you make your final decision.

Ask for help. If you are having trouble finding the right pair of shoes, don't hesitate to ask for help from a salesperson or shoe expert. They can offer valuable insight and guidance.

What else to pack for a trip to Chicago in the spring:

What I missed and are really must-haves

  • Gloves. I ended up buying a pair. They weren’t great but they got the job done. Next time I will bring a solid pair.
  • Hat. The ski variety for warmth.

I hope you found this info helpful! Now get out there and start exploring in your new Jambu walking shoes! Spring and summer are the perfect time to get outside and enjoy the world around you. With the right pair of shoes, you can make the most of every moment.

If you’re in the market for women’s walking shoes, Jambu is a great place to start your search. With a large selection of styles and sizes, you’re sure to find the perfect shoe for your needs.

Jambu shoes are an essential, daily part of my wardrobe, check out the other styles that I have, and adore (and all still available on Amazon!):

Whether you’re planning a winter getaway, a trip with lots of sightseeing and other activities, or a trip that involves more than one climate—you want to make sure you have the right shoes. That’s why it’s important to invest in a good walking shoe that can handle all types of terrain and weather conditions.

For my latest trip, Mr. Misadventures and I traveled to Portugal. It is late autumn, approaching winter and we started our trip in the Azores, a set of 9 beautiful islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean that belong to Portugal. It is humid and tropical which makes for weather that changes by the hour.

It is wet and often muddy outside the cities and slippery when walking inside. After two weeks in that environment, we moved on to Lisbon, which is more urban, but is still wet, slippery, and from time to time a bit cold!

All that to say I know what I am talking about! Let’s dive into what makes for a good travel shoe and how to pack the perfect pair for your next adventure, including long days of exploring.

Disclosure: This post is a sponsored collaboration with Jambu & Co. As always ALL opinions are my own. This is my 10th season working with Jambu and wear a pair nearly every single day. There is a reason for that!

Pro tip: all you need is Jambu! They are my top pick for any category of shoe! And the good news is they are the perfect shoe for whatever occasion.

What Makes for a Good Travel Shoe?

When choosing the perfect travel shoes, there are some key things to consider. Comfort is key! You want your shoe to be lightweight but also supportive. Look for high-quality shoes that offer plenty of cushioning and extra support.

This is especially important if you plan on doing activities like hiking or have plans on sightseeing in rugged terrain. With a cushioned footbed and good arch support, you can make sure your feet stay comfortable no matter how long or far you walk.

Jambu Synergy Shoes on Terceira Island in the Azores

You also want it to be durable enough that it can withstand all sorts of terrain and weather conditions. Shoes with full coverage also help keep your feet dry in wet climates as well as provide added protection from cold weather elements when traveling during winter months.

Finally, look for something stylish yet casual so that you can wear them day or night with any outfit. Jambu shoes check all these boxes and more! Jambu shoes are my picks for stylish yet comfortable travel shoes. They come in various styles including slip-ons, sandals, boots and hiking shoes, sneakers, and more – making them perfect for any destination and any adventure (or let’s face it, in my case, misadventure!).

Winter Travel Shoes

If your travels involve cold temperatures or wet weather conditions, then it’s important to choose a good winter travel shoe that will keep your feet warm and dry. Look for boots or booties made of waterproof materials like leather or rubber. Waterproof shoes are a great option.

Also, make sure they have insulation. Jambu's waterproof boots are perfect for this – they are warm and waterproof with a stylish design that will go great with any outfit!

Close-up of Jambu Sunset Too Vegan at the Monserrate Garden

Jambu shoes are designed with extra grip (such as a rubber sole) so they are ideal for slippery surfaces like snow or wet pavement as well as rocky trails which makes them great if you plan on doing any sort of outdoor activity while traveling. Plus they're incredibly stylish shoes so they're great even if all you plan to do is shop around town on city streets!

Over the years I have found all my Jambu to be the most comfortable walking shoes I have in my closet (although after 10 seasons working with Jambu, you would be hard-pressed to find any other shoe brand in my closet!). Travel often means long days of walking, including sometimes just finding your terminal at the airport!

How to Pack Your Shoes for Travel

No matter what season you plan on traveling in, packing smartly is essential if you want to save space in your luggage. If you’re traveling in colder climates, then investing in some quality insoles could be an option since they take up much less space than bulky boots do.

And if possible try not to pack too many pairs of shoes; stick with just one or two versatile styles that can work with multiple outfits depending on where you're headed! If possible, wear your biggest shoe on the plane instead of packing them away in your suitcase; this will give you more room in case you buy any souvenirs or items you pick up along the way!

Jambu Synergy Shoes on Sao Miguel Island in the Azores
My Jambu Synergy Shoes at the Cha Gorreana tea plantation in Sao Miguel

If taking two or more pairs of shoes with you, use shoe bags to protect your shoes as well as the other items in your suitcase. When you purchase a pair of Jambu shoes, they come in their own shoe bags, which means you don't have to buy one.

For cold-weather trips, try stuffing socks (merino wool, or my pick to prevent sore feet, compression socks such as Bombas) inside your shoes before packing them away; this will help protect them from getting crushed or creased while keeping warm air trapped inside them throughout the flight.

Conclusion…buy Jambu for you and for the traveler on your gift list!

All in all, having a comfortable pair of walking shoes is essential when traveling so that no matter what kind of adventure awaits–whether it be shopping around town or trekking through icy or muddy conditions–your feet will be happy and supported throughout it all! A good walking shoe doesn’t just make traveling easier but also makes a great gift during this holiday season too! Don't forget birthdays, and heck, just-because days!

The suction cups grab any flat surface and hold on. It's foldable, bendable, and lightweight so it is easy to pack and bring along anywhere. I have thrown mine into my Osprey backpack and it is permanently with me!

NOMATIC's Access Sling

NOMATIC's Access Sling

[Gifted] When Mr. Misadventures and I are traveling, he has all the camera gear and I have, well, everything else! As I wrote about in my best bags for Paris post, I often carry a tote bag (or even when I have my backpack) with smaller bags and pouches inside. I always have a sling that has my phone and wallet and a small amount of money with me while in the airport and tucked into my tote.

I got the NOMATIC's Access Sling for Mr. Misadventures to carry his phone, wallet/ID, etc while out and about without having to dig into his camera bag. He has even started using it to go out for errands, etc. instead of handing me his phone and wallet! Victory!

Collectible Travel Rings

Collectible Travel Rings

Whether it is by country or by state, by city or mountain, you can collect rings for a keychain, necklace, or bracelet and give back to help fight the negative effects of tourism. Traveler Collective rings are a great way to honor your travels or your favorite location in the world…like Paris!

Letterfolk Passports

Letterfolk Passports

If you are a journal fan or enjoy a tangible (physical) memento for your travel experience, you may go crazy buying passports from Letterfolk! There are so many awesome ones to choose from! Here are MY favorites:

Airplane Footrest

Airplane Footrest

I am short, so I don't necessarily have a problem with leg room on planes, but my feet don't touch the ground, so they get sore from not resting on something. I don't like to put my feet up on the seat in front of me, so a footrest is a perfect solution and I like this one from Everlasting Comfort.

CastleFlexx

Andi exercising with the CastleFlexx

[Gifted] Need to do some exercise on the road? Try CastleFlexx. Each unit has a 2-pound detachable magnetic weight to adjust the intensity. It rolls up tight and would be easy enough to throw into a suitcase. Its primary purpose is to help with lower back and leg pain (a great device for stretching after an international flight or walking Chicago or Lisbon for the day!) but it also is great for strengthening the core.

Tech Organizer

Tech Organizer

Traveling with your phone, laptop, kindle, or smartwatch? Okay, you are just like me! All that means lots of cables and that means you need a tech organizer! CalPak has one with multiple pockets, panels, and padding to secure your electronic devices.

Border Crossings

Border Crossings

Border Crossings from Emma Fick is an illustrated travelogue covering a journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway between Beijing through Mongolia to Moscow. The 200 illustrations show children the cultural and historical information associated with this train trip. Emma Fick also has illustrated book on New Orleans.

Whether your loved ones are gearing up for their next big trip or they're just dreaming of far-off places, there's a travel-themed gift out there that will make them happy. Check out what I am currently adoring and give the traveler in your life a little something to help fuel their wanderlust.

Dear New Osprey,
Boy, do you have big shoes to fill! My last Osprey and I were together just shy of 15 years. He was with me on all my adventures (and misadventures), big and small. He saw me through good times and bad and has never once let me down. Some might say that that's a bit obsessive, but I couldn't imagine my life without him!

Yes, you are a replacement but I will love you and take you everywhere just like the last guy.

We are going to have such adventures. And since you are new here, just letting you know there will be misadventures as well! I will try not to hurt you or leave you. If you are anything like my last backpack, we will be friends for a while!

To my old backpack, I will miss you dearly but I know that we will meet again. You were part of my life for so long and meant so much to me, it was hard to let go. But I am excited to see what the future holds with this new guy by my side!

From one backpack lover to another,

Happy Trails!

Me with my NEW Osprey in 2022!

Why Osprey

When you're looking for a new piece of gear, it's important to think about more than just the price. You want to find something that will last for years and won't end up in a landfill. That's why choosing gear with a lifetime guarantee is such a smart choice.

Me and my Osprey in a slot canyon around the Grand Escalante in 2012.

Not only does it mean you'll never have to worry about your gear breaking down on you, but it also means you're helping the environment!

Me and my Osprey in White Sands New Mexico in 2016.

Lifetime guarantees are becoming more and more common as companies realize that they're good for business. After all, what's better for a company than having a customer for life?

Me and my Osprey in the Glen Canyon Dam in Arizona in 2010

And when you're looking at gear with a lifetime guarantee, you can be sure that it's been built to last. This means you won't have to replace it as often, which is great for both your wallet and the environment.

My Osprey, hiking shoes, and snacks in 2020.

When it comes to outdoor bags, luggage, daypacks, and accessories, I choose Osprey. They have what is called the All Mighty Guarantee:

“Osprey will repair any damage or defect for any reason free of charge whether it was purchased in 1974 or yesterday.”

Oregon Coast in 2016

And they just proved it. My faithful buddy of 14.5 years was sent for repair. Osprey could not repair it so they replaced it – FOR FREE – with a new Talon 22 Cosmic backpack in red very similar to my old one.

Waiting with my Osprey for the ferry in Ile de Brehat in 2019.

I think that companies that offer these types of guarantees are more honorable. They're not just looking to make a quick buck – they want their customers to be happy and they're willing to stand behind their products. And that's something I can definitely get behind!

Climbing on the Canyon Overlook Trail in Zion National Park in 2017

So next time you're in the market for a new backpack, be sure to look for the lifetime guarantee. It's a smart choice for you and the planet!

Disclosure: This is a sponsored collaboration with Chico's. As always all opinions are my own.

No muss. No-fuss. No drama. That’s pretty much my life’s motto. And except for a few years in the late ’80s where there was excessive use of Aquanet and blue eye shadow, that’s pretty much my fashion and beauty style as well. I think I was doing the “capsule wardrobe” way before it was a thing because I just don’t want to spend a lot of time thinking about my hair, make-up or clothing!

I’ve always gravitated towards one or two colors in my closet, those colors have changed depending on the circumstances. In San Francisco that meant a lot of black and grey with the occasional navy thrown in, but in Arizona black is just not that smart and in the last 2 years, I have moved to blue with red, white and grey accents.

What has stuck is my minimalist approach. A method that is even more important to me when it comes to travel. Which I do a fair share of. My packing and planning method involves pairing outfits that can mix or match without a lot of effort. And I absolutely hate to iron, so my clothes have to travel well too. So, when Chico’s reached out to try out their Summer Travel Collection, I said, “yes please!”

My selections arrived just in time for 2 consecutive trips and I couldn’t have been more pleased when everything arrived and everything fit! I went with my usual shades of blue and white but also picked out pants that are an olive-green color called vetiver, a plant that grows in Spain, India, and a few other spots in the world (and also happened to be the scent of the bath products in the hotel I stayed in on one of my trips – small world!). What I loved about the Mix and Match Collection is that there was a nice palette to choose from and I didn’t have to worry about a mismatch! So, my sateen slim crops in vetiver went with the 4 shirts I selected, which also went with the navy-blue crops I got too. Huge bonus that Chico’s carries petite sizes as regular crops just look like highwater pants on shorties like me!

So when I got to Billings with a jam-packed itinerary all I had to do was grab a top and grab a pair of pants, and voila! I was made in the shade! During my 36 hours in Billings, I walked around the historic downtown, visited murals and street art, took in a couple of coffee shops and restaurants, headed to a national monument and a farmer’s market, and was comfortable and cute the whole time!

I was also quite comfortable in the airport while I waited for connecting flights and on the plane. The fabrics breathe well and move with me whether I am sitting on the plane, walking through the airport, or standing and waiting for my luggage. I didn’t wrinkle either. Total bonus!

Flexibility, style, and minimal care are things I look for when selecting clothes not only for travel but for life in general. The last thing I want to do when I’m in a new location is to worry about what to wear. I want to be able to just grab something in my hotel closet and go! And I do not want to iron!

It’s funny when Mr. Misadventures and I were in San Francisco, I ironed a lot and I sucked at it. The hubby is far better at it and I would do anything to get him to do the ironing! He even ironed his jeans which I thought was crazy. Then when we lived in the RV for 18 months, we didn’t even bring an iron and although we have one in our home now, I try my best not to use it. For my clothing selections, I look for fabrics that can be folded or washed and hung without ironing and so far, I’ve been pretty successful.

To Chico’s Summer Travel Collection, I say, “Bienvenue to my closet!”

Here’s what I brought Billings:

  • Petite Sateen Slim Crops in Vetiver
  • Petite Sateen Slim Crops in Kings Navy
  • Lace Sleeve Top in Alabaster
  • Petite Linen notched button pullover in Sunshine Yellow
  • Half-button Denim Shirt in Medium Wanderlust
  • Blue Sunglasses

After my quick trip to Billings, and a business trip to Raleigh (I wore the Vetiver petite sateen slim crops and denim shirt to the office one day, but no photos, it was my first week on the new job and I didn’t want *that* kind of attention, but I loved the fact that my travel-wear could easily turn into office-wear!) I did a little staycation at one of my favorite Phoenix-area resorts, Mountain Shadows. For this lovely mid-century modern lady, I dressed up my crop pants with fancier shoes and went with the blue tops and sunglasses. It was the perfect resort-wear!

Here’s what I brought for my staycation:

  • Petite Sateen Slim Crops in Kings Navy
  • Petite Linen notched button pullover in Coastal Blue
  • Solid Textured top in Coastal Blue
  • Blue Sunglasses

The Chico’s Summer Travel Collection has lots of colors and patterns to choose from and they all pretty much go with each other, so even if you aren’t a clothing minimalist like me, and more a fashionista, you will find plenty of pieces for your wardrobe. Plus, accessories like hats, scarves, and sunglasses. Got to have those sunglasses in the summer!

So from urban trekking in Billings to business travel and office time in Raleigh and a staycation in Phoenix, Chico’s Summer Travel Collection fit the bill to a T (or tee!). After 3 trips I am convinced that I need to continue mixing and matching from this collection to build out my wardrobe for my next trips!
